Hope some of that helps, main thing is practise, also make sure that your chops are razor sharp so you don't get any pops are crackles at the end of the hits. then use cubases time stretch function to stretch the midi part to fill any gaps. then load it up in cubase then chop it up so that i can move the main hits to the grid. often you think the break isn't clean in isolation but then when you hear it against your other elments it sounds nice and clean.ДЄlso make sure that you chop the break and don't use time stretch. as its very important to hear the break in context. i also try to raise a couple of the nice notches by a few db's, as it draws the ear to the nice bits and makes you not hear the nasty bits.ДЄlso make sure you have a bass line or a pad or something handy, to play over the break. i generaly just try to find the really nasty resonances and make small little eq nothches. Generaly speaking the break shouldn't need too much eq doing to it. i think its cos your ears get fucked easily doing this. the reson a say this is for months i spent a night eqing a break all night making cut after cut, then come back the next day and it sounds shit. as in make a few cuts leave it for a bit then come back turn the eq off, then turn it on again and see if it sounds better. If you eq them too much they will very quickly sound shit. I've still got a lot to learn but a few things i have worked out is these:Дon't clean too much as sometimes the thing that drew you to the break in the first place is the dirt.
